Chapter 9
All-Star Weekend
The flight attendant announces. “Everyone, please be seated. The captain has just turned on the fasten your seat belt sign. We’re twenty minutes away from Las Vegas, Nevada.”
The flight is filled mostly with men. There are a handful of gold diggers sprinkled throughout the plane.
B.J. looks at Carmelo, “All-star weekend is the best. It’s a man’s paradise and a player’s dream. We’ve got it all right here in one city: a Wii tournament, a poker tournament, and a pool competition. Let’s not leave out the most important, the game. All the best players in the league battle it out. I heard a DJ say on the radio that if you’re a woman and can’t get a man this weekend you must be tore up from the floor up. The ratio of men to women is five to one.”
Twenty minutes later, the plane lands on the runway.
The flight attendant says, “Please don’t get out of your seat until the seat belt sign is turned off. You’re free to use your cell phone.” Ding. The fellas grab their carry on luggage and exit the plane.
The limo driver is wearing a black tuxedo and holding up a sign that reads Miller. They walk to him, he opens the door, and drives them to the fanciest hotel on the strip.
“Man, you didn’t spare any expense. The place is off the hook.” B.J. tells Carmelo as they arrive at their suite.
“It’s called the I’m so tired of balling suite.” Carmelo responds.
It takes up a whole floor. It comes with a chef, a hot tub big enough to hold ten people, and a basketball court. After the men settle down, it’s time to hit the scene. They put on their best. As they walk through the casino, they are immediately bomb rushed by a diverse group of gold diggers. From the first look, it is evident they are label hoes. They have on every name brand a person can pronounce, and are probably unemployed.
The women want to take pictures with Carmelo. Some even pull out black magic markers and beg him to autograph their breasts. He’s flattered. Carmelo has been retired for a little more than two years, but that doesn’t keep the vultures away. He can see this is going to be a great weekend.
B.J. says when the last woman leaves, “Big pimpin’, you still got it. You’re a legend. These women have definitely done their homework.”
Carmelo responds, “I haven’t been on the scene since I retired. I have gone to a few games here and there. I haven’t done enough for em’ to be jockin’ me the way they are.”
B.J. and Carmelo continue to walk around the casino when Carmelo is approached by a group of ballers. They dap each other up. A starting line up of five NBA players and one retired NBA player standing in a lobby without bodyguards damn near causes a riot. It’s like someone pushed a green button that sent out a signal to all of the gold diggers that read “fresh money in the lobby”.
